Thread: HySIS Hyperspectral Imaging capability of India

Thread: In the backdrop of #Kartarpur, India today silently launched Hyperspectral imaging satellite "HySIS", which combines the power of digital imaging and spectroscopy.
Hyperspectral imaging works by stacking images of same object/material, for each wavelength & stored as hypercube for analysis. It's use includes;
1. Quantification - abundance of material
2. Discrimination - unique identity
3. Detection - determines presence of material, objects
Since anomalies and features of matter react differently to different EM wavelengths it provides the ability to observe objects which conceal their emissions in one part of the spectrum (i.e. stealth aircraft and thermally suppressed engines) or are hidden underground bunkers
SEAL Team 6 that descended upon Bin Laden's compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, used hyperspectral imaging to gain an edge in night time urban combat. Is India preparing for another surgical strike?
Hyperspectral imaging can be used for finding submarines and underwater mines in shallow waters. On land, they can can capture the differences in EM signature of a decoy example wooden missile vs an actual missile launcher transported in concealed vehicles. Rings bell Pak fauj?
Indian satellite HySIS can see in 55 spectral bands from 630 km above the ground - giving it capability to locate, classify, monitor: from-biological, geological environments-to-military surveillance, missile movements (hidden/transported overland in vehicles).

Shalom.
